Dr. Ron Coverdale, O.D.
Dr Ron Coverdale has been a practicing Optometrist for over 40 years. Dr Coverdale grew up in Iowa and attended Iowa State University with the intent of becoming an engineer. He soon realized that he was too much of a “people person” to enjoy a desk job. While looking through a career catalog, Optometry caught his eye. After spending time with his own Optometrist, this direction was confirmed.
Dr. Coverdale, after two years at Iowa State, transferred to the University of California School of Optometry (great to get away from those Iowa winters!) He got his doctorate in 1966 and then spent the next three years as a missionary on college campuses with Campus Crusade for Christ. In 1968 he met his wife, Linda. They married in 1969, and he began his practice in Bellevue, Washington. During the 70’s, Dr Coverdale practiced in Eugene, Oregon and his family moved back to the Seattle area (Linda’s home town) in 1980. In 1981 he joined a practice in the University district and started the Kenmore practice in 1985 where he now practices. Dr Coverdale and Linda have two married daughters, Tressa and Kori and seven wonderful grandchildren. The loves of their lives!!.
Dr Coverdale enjoys sports, is a jogger who runs every morning, does church work in his spare time, and especially enjoys those seven grandchildren. Linda is also very proud of the grand kids and works at home. She is especially busy taking care of her 94 year old mother.
Dr Coverdale is a caring and passionate practioner who thoroughly enjoys his practice and the patients who have faithfully supported his practice over the years. Even though he is decreasing his work load a bit, he plans on many more years of satisfying practice.
Dr. Diana McFarland, O.D.
Dr. McFarland, a native Washingtonian and a member of the American Optometric Assosiaction, grew up in the Eastside of the greater Seattle area. Growing up included lots of swimming, and horse back riding in the great Northwest (OK so they were ponies). As she contemplated a career direction, she decided between dermatology and optometry. When referred to an Ophthalmologist for a glaucoma evaluation, she realized how precious the gift of sight is.
Dr. McFarland earned her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at the University of Washington with the ultimate goal of entering Optometry school. While attending the University of Washington, she heard that Dr. Coverdale was looking for part-time help. He hired her as a part time receptionist and she gained helpful experience in an optometric practice. During her undergrad years, Dr. McFarland also took a part time job at the University Hospital ophthalmology research department and saw a little of the ophthalmology side of things. She graduated from the University of Washington in 1990.
Dr. McFarland chose to go to Pacific University for her optometry degree. For the first three summers, she came home and worked as a receptionist for Dr. Coverdale. The fourth summer she did her internship at Oak Harbor Navy Base on Whidbey Island. She was engaged that summer to her friend Lyle. She graduated from Pacific University with a Doctor of Optometry degree in 1994. One week after national board exams she married Lyle and moved back to the Seattle area.
After getting married and having kids, Dr McFarland chose to be a full time mom and a part-time optometrist. So Dr. McFarland filled in for several optometrists in the area for many years. Dr Coverdale was one of them. During this time she was able to experience the different settings of optometry and how many different practices are run. She always enjoyed working with Dr. Coverdale. Eventually, Dr. Coverdale decided to cut back on his hours and asked Dr. McFarland to work with him consistently.
Dr. McFarland and her family enjoy sailing the Puget Sound and Gulf Islands. They are involved with the music of their church. Dr. McFarland plays flute and Lyle plays bass guitar. Dr. McFarland enjoys being a full time mother of 2 great girls and enjoys helping others see to their best potential.
